In an era where environmental literacy is as crucial as academic proficiency, the Department of Chemistry at KVR Government College for Women, in collaboration with Cluster University, hosted a transformative one-day training session on Water Analysis, under DBT Star College Scheme, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India.
This program was not merely a classroom exercise; it was a rigorous immersion into the protocols that safeguard our most precious resource: water.
The highlight of the event was the participation of esteemed analysts from the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), Kurnool. Their presence provided our students with a rare glimpse into the professional standards of environmental monitoring.
Distinguished Resource Persons: Dr. V. Sudhakar (Analysis Officer, Grade 1), D. Janet (Analysis Officer, Grade 2), Salma Banu (Analysis Officer)
The core of the workshop involved the empirical testing of water samples collected from various sectors across Kurnool. Under the expert guidance of Dr. V. Sudhakar, students moved beyond the textbook to measure critical chemical indicators:

Testing the Waters |
pH Values: Understanding the acidity-alkalinity balance.
TDS (Total Dissolved Solids): Quantifying the concentration of dissolved substances.
Chloride Detection: Identifying inorganic ions through titration.
Chemical Elemental Analysis: Detecting impurities that affect potability.
Dr. Sudhakar provided a sobering yet vital lecture presentation on the consequences of water pollution. He emphasized that the "purity of water is the pulse of public health," connecting the students' laboratory results to broader ecological conservation efforts. This pedagogical approach ensures that our students graduate not just as chemists, but as informed citizens.
Dr. G.V. Ranga Reddy (Vice-Principal)
Dr K Michael David (DBT Coordinator)
Dr. J. Kalpana (Incharge, Department of Chemistry)
Faculty Team: Dr. K. Chandrarekha, Dr. Ch. Sravanthi, Dr. N. Ramireddy, Dr. M.V.N.V. Prasad Gupta, Dr. K. Prabhavathi, and Dr. A. Sunitha.
We were also pleased to welcome students from Silver Jubilee Government College, Kurnool, fostering a spirit of inter-collegiate academic collaboration.
The Department of Chemistry remains committed to providing "applied learning" opportunities. By bringing industry experts into the college laboratory, we ensure our curriculum remains dynamic and relevant to the challenges of 2026.
