South India Invitational Women’s 7-a-side Football Tournament Kicks Off in Kurnool

KURNOOL: The sports grounds of the Government Degree College (GDC Men), under the jurisdiction of Cluster University, Kurnool, came alive today as the South India Invitational Women’s 7-a-side Football Tournament officially commenced.
The event was inaugurated by a distinguished panel of guests, including:
- Dr. M. Indira Shanti, Principal of the GDC Men
- Muppa Rajasekhar, President of the District Football Association
- G. Gopinath, CEO of Ridge School
- P. Vijay Kumar, CEO of the District Olympic Association
- M. Vijayakumar, President of the District Football Association
Tournament Format and Participation
Tournament President Y. Srinivasa Reddy announced that the competition features 16 elite teams hailing from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. To ensure a high level of competition, the tournament is being conducted in a league format across four pools.
The opening ceremony also saw the presence of Vice Principal J. Hemanth, District BC Welfare President AB Dharmendra, and Organizing Secretary K. Brahmakumar, alongside a large gathering of sports enthusiasts and athletes.
Honoring Regional Talent
In a heartwarming gesture, the organizers took the opportunity to felicitate several star players who have represented the nation and the region on big stages. Those honored included:
- Kumari Anusha (Anantapur), Aruna (Kadapa), and Lavanya (Nalgonda) – Members of the Indian Women's Football Team.
- Kumari M. Renuka – National-level player.
- Coach Nagaraju (Nizamabad).
